My mentor, good friend, guide and introduction to dog training passed away unexpectedly this week. I am devastated to lose him but his legacy will continue.
Garry Gross was not only a fantastic dog trainer, but also a gifted photographer. For many years before he became a trainer, he photographed models and fashion. Then after following his passion for training dogs, he returned to photographing - dogs. He was truly adept at capturing the gleam of an elderly dog's eye as well as capturing any behavior he wished.
He apprenticed my studies when I barely knew what I was doing. I still can hear his voice in my head many times..... charged, meaningful, humorful, and finally nonchalant. His attitude helped guide me through client situations, dog situations, and life, too. I was lucky to have him as a teacher.
Garry also partnered with Victoria Stilwell from the TV show 'It's Me or The Dog' to form Dog Trainers of NY back in 2002, and she continues to be a strong force for him. She worked with him on many important projects and will continue them in his honor.
Those who were lucky enough to meet Garry will miss his charisma, his confidence, his humor, and especially his smile. Which was never ever left at home.
You will be missed.
